ELECTRIC MOUNTAINS – Thomas KNEUBÜHLER
ProjexMTL, Belgo Bldg, suite 212
Exposition du 29 avril au 20 juin
Projex-Mtl Galerie is proud to present “Electric Mountains”, the most recent project by Swiss-born artist Thomas Kneubühler.
Thomas Kneubühler is best known for his project “Office 2000” where city lights at night played an important role in his work. In “Electric Mountains” Kneubühler turns his gaze to another type of landscape which is transformed by 500’000 watt of lights.
“Electric Mountains” began with a journey through the winter landscape of Quebec. Equipped with topographic maps, snowshoes and a large format camera, Kneubühler went out in search of these illuminated mountains. The result is a new series of night-time, large format, landscape photographs.
For the exhibition at Projex-Mtl, Kneubühler invited two artists to collaborate and respond to his work. Steve Bates has contributed the sound of electricity to the video “Switch”. Geoffrey Jones’ LED panel will illuminate “Mount Hortons”, a mountain which can’t be found on any map.
“Electric Mountains” is the result of a team work. The artist wished to thanks the many people involved, who made the project happen. First and formost Andreas Rutkauskas for his assistance with and without snowshoes. Francis Falardeau (location scout Laurentides), Van Royko (Red camera), Clare Samuel (video editing)
Louis Lussier (aluminum mounting), Martin Schop (frames), The Chromira (LED printing), Mike Love (Colex), and last but not least Louis Joncas & André Laroche (Projex-Mtl Galerie)
The artist gratefully acknowledges the financial support from the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Quebec.
The exhibition runs from April 30 to June 20th 2009. A reception with the artist will be held May 2nd from 3:00- 6:00pm.
