Ulla von Brandenburg is a German artist living and working in Hamburg. In 2005, she was awarded the “Verein fuer Neue Kunst Hamburg” travel and production grant by the city of Hamburg. With this funding, she has spent the five months working and living in Montréal. From her studio in Little Italy, she produced a new series of work, specific to both the locals of Montréal and those she encountered during her tenure.
Her films, drawings, frescos, texts and books revolve around an idiom of occultism, parapsychology and psychoanalyse. Her works recall the beginning of the modern age and with mysterious ends, Brandenburg reformulates a unique historical and social context.
